Automatic Awards - Fall

The following scholarships are awarded automatically to ACAD students based on the merit of their work or academic achievement or other stated criteria. Students will be notified in September if they have been selected to receive one of these awards.

ARTSTREAM SCHOLARSHIP - FALL
Source: ACAD
Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in the Artstream program.
Criteria: Academic achievement based on the previous semester grade point average.
Value: $1000

Note: Students may only receive this award once.
 
Bursaries - Fall

The following are awards whose primary criterion is financial need. Students must submit a Form A for each award for which they are applying, and one completed Form B. Students must provide a copy of their Notice of Assessment if they have applied for a student loan in 2009/2010. Students may also submit any additional comments they feel are relevant to their financial situation. Any students with questions should visit the Student Resource Coordinator in the Student Resource Centre (Annex A) prior to application. The deadline for submission is OCTOBER 1 at 4 PM, unless otherwise stated. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

THE OWEN SCHOLARSHIP (The Calgary Foundation)

DELWYN DARLING MEMORIAL BURSARY

Eligibility: Open to 2nd year BFA students with at least two 200-level studio courses in Painting, and 3rd and 4th year Painting majors.

THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BURSARY ALBERTA - NWT COMMAND

Eligibility: Open to First Year Studies and 2nd year students meeting the following priorities:
a) Son or daughter of a deceased or disabled War Veteran
b) Son or daughter of a War Veteran
c) Ex-Service Personnel
d) Son or daughter of Ex-Service or Serving Personnel
e) Grandson or granddaughter of Ex-Service Personnel
f) Native-born or naturalized Canadian domiciled in Alberta or the NWT

Competitive Awards - Fall

Though the majority of competitive awards are juried in Winter semester, the following exceptions have Fall deadlines. Competitive awards require the submission of a complete application package to the appropriate authority. A separate completed awards application form as well as any other documents required for each award must be included in separate packages. Students applying for multiple awards should submit only one CD with the required images for each award in separate labeled folders. Images must be JPEG only with a maximum size of 5x7, and must be PC-compatible files only. If you are submitting a video file it should be no longer than 5 minutes and must be accessible with one of the following plug-ins: Quicktime, RealPlayer, Shockwave, Windows Media Player or Flash. The deadline for submissions is October 1 at 4 PM unless otherwise stated. Please ensure that you have submitted all requirements for consideration to the ACAD Awards Office (Student Resource Centre, located in Annex A) by that date. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

AMBER WEBB-BOWERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Students enrolled in 4th year studies, B.FA - Painting

Note: This award has been established as a memorial to Amber Bowerman (nee Webb), and to honour and preserve her memory as an accomplished journalist and mentor, a strong supporter of the arts, and a practising oil painter inspired by her grandmother Dolores James. This award has been allocated to supporting emerging artists at ACAD, who, simliar to Amber, are strongly committed to their careers. Amber was born at the Grace Hospital in Calgary on July 23, 1977. She died in Calgary on May 27, 2008; She was 30 years old.
 
D'ARCY LEVESQUE AWARD OF DISTINCTION

GLASS PROJECT AWARD

Eligibility: Glass majors in 3rd or 4th year.
Criteria: Merit of proposal.
Value: $1200

Submit: Detailed project proposal outlining the intent of a one time project to be completed during the current academic year.
The proposal must include the following:
A description of the project that outlines the objectives, planned activities, and expected results and benefits
A project itinerary and budget
A series of sketches or images that relate to the intended project
A CD containing 5 numbered images of recently completed work with a corresponding image list

Conditions: The selected recipient is required to present a written summary with the project within one month of its completion to the Head of Glass.
 
JENNY BELZBERG ENDOWMENT

Eligibility: Sculpture students; 3rd year or 1st semester 4th year students.
Criteria: Merit of work.

MADT FOURTH YEAR TRAVEL AWARD - FALL

Criteria: Merit of proposal with special consideration to professional development and relevance of travel activity to development of student practice and career.

(For example, your proposal may describe a workshop, conference, or media festival you wish to attend, might describe how your attendance will contribute to your development as an artist/practitioner, or enable the acquisition of particular skills, etc.) Include the following in your application package:

• examples of your work (e.g. a digital portfolio).

Eligibility: Any returning ACAD student participating in travel related to their studies including, but not limited to, Mobility/Exchange, New York Studio Program, Corning Glass Program, Skowhegan Matching School fellowship
Criteria: Based on merit of work, proposal and artist statement.

Conditions: To receive funds the recipient must:

* Provide a copy of the acceptance letter for the proposed program of study, workshop, exhibition, conference or seminar.
* Complete the proposed program and return to ACAD the following semester, unless graduating in the spring.
* Upon completion of program submit a report to the Awards Office
Note: Students may only receive this award once.
 
ARTHUR & BETTY TORODE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Source: Memorial gifts + ACAD matching
Eligibility: Open to Painting majors in their 3rd year or first semester of their 4th year.
Criteria: Merit of work.
Value: $500

Submit: Nine images of current work on CD, an artist's statement + image list. Finalists will be required to submit an actual rendering of work to the selection committee for review.

Entrance Scholarships - Fall

The following Fall Entrance Scholarships are designed solely for students entering the Alberta College of Art + Design for the first time, either as a First Year Studies or Advanced Standing/Direct Entry student. Entrance Scholarships are for Fall admission only. Recipients must be registered for 15 credits each semester. Unless otherwise noted, Entrance Scholarships are awarded automatically and applied as tuition credit. Applications are not required.

3M CERAMICS DIRECT ENTRY SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Prospective direct entry students applying to 3rd or 4th year of ceramics.
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio and cumulative grade point average
Value: $1000

Conditions: This Scholarship is offered as a tuition deduction. Recipients must be registered for a minimum 9 credits to be eligible.
 
ACAD ADVANCED STANDING ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Prospective students applying to 2nd or 3rd year.
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio and cumulative grade point average.
Value: $1000 tuition reduction - ($500 in 1st semester; eligible for $500 in 2nd semester)

Conditions: This Scholarship is offered in two equal portions. The first $500 will be issued to the successful applicant as tuition credit upon entering 2nd or 3rd year at ACAD. If the recipient completes the 1st semester with a GPA of 3.0 or more, the recipient will automatically receive the remaining $500 tuition credit upon returning for the following semester. Recipients must be registered for 9 credits in each semester.
 
ACAD FIRST YEAR STUDIES ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Prospective students applying to First Year Studies who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio and cumulative grade point average.
Value: $1000 tuition reduction - ($500 in 1st semester; eligible for $500 in 2nd semester)

Selection: Admissions staff with faculty input
Conditions: This Scholarship is offered in two equal portions. The first $500 credit will be issued to the successful applicant upon entering ACAD's First Year Studies program. If the recipient completes the 1st semester with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, the recipient will automatically receive $500 tuition credit upon returning for the following semester. Recipients must be registered for 9 credits in each semester.
 
ACAD INTERNATIONAL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Prospective international visa students applying for Fall admission to First Year Studies or to 2nd or 3rd year.
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio and previous grade point average.
Value: $2000 tuition reduction - $1000 in 1st semester; eligible for $1000 the following semester.

Conditions: This Scholarship is offered in two equal portions. The first $1000 will be issued to the successful applicant upon entering ACAD's First Year Studies or 2nd or 3rd year. Recipients must be registered for 9 credits in each semester.
 
CONTINUING ARTS ASSOCIATION FIRST YEAR STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Prospective students applying for Fall admission to First Year Studies who are graduates of a separate or public Calgary high school in the previous academic year, or expect to graduate in the current academic year
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio.

J. PATRICK CASHION SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE

Eligibility: Prospective students applying to First Year Studies.
Criteria: Merit of entrance portfolio and previous cumulative grade point average.
Value: One year full tuition credit

Conditions: This scholarship is offered in two portions. The 1st semester tuition credit will be issued to the successful applicant upon entering ACAD's First Year Studies. If the recipient completes the 1st semester with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, the recipient will automatically receive 2nd semester tuition credit upon returning for the following semester. Recipients must be registered for 9 credits in each semester.
 
Government Awards - Fall

The Government of Alberta offers assistance to students meeting Alberta residency requirements through the following awards. Application forms are available through the appropriate government departments. The information provided is as current as is available and is subject to change without notice.

ALBERTA FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS PROJECT GRANT - FALL

ALEXANDER RUTHERFORD SCHOLARSHIP FOR HIGH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT - FALL

Eligibility: Alberta residents in full-time studies in any year.
Criteria: Alberta high school graduates since 1980 - minimum average of 80% in five designated subjects, in grades 10, 11 or 12.
Value: Up to $2500

JASON LANG SCHOLARSHIP
Source: Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: Alberta residents entering the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of full-time studies in an undergraduate program at an Alberta Institution.
Criteria: Enrollment in at least 24 credits in the previous academic year and a GPA of 3.2. Recipients must enroll in at least 18 credits in the upcoming year and cannot receive the Louise McKinney Scholarship in the same year.

LOUISE McKINNEY POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Open to all majors entering full-time undergraduate studies at 2nd, 3rd or 4th year, and who are Alberta residents.
Criteria: Exceptional academic achievement in full-time studies during the previous year.
Value: $2500

PERSONS CASE SCHOLARSHIP

Eligibility: Open to all majors who are Alberta residents.
Criteria: Cumulative grade point average, program of study and financial need. Studies must promote advancement of women or be non-traditional for gender.
