Bursaries - Winter

The following are awards whose primary criterion is financial need. Students must submit a Form A for each award for which they are applying, and one completed Form B. Students must provide a copy of their Notice of Assessment if they have applied for a student loan in 2009/10. Students may also submit any additional comments they feel are relevant to their financial situation. Any students with questions should visit the Student Resource Coordinator in the Student Resource Centre (Annex A) prior to application. The deadline for submissions is JANUARY 21 at 4 PM unless otherwise stated. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Competitive Awards - Winter

Competitive awards require the submission of a complete application package to the appropriate authority. A separate completed awards application form as well as any other documents required for each award must be included in separate packages. Students applying for multiple awards should submit only one CD with the required images for each award in separate labeled folders. Images must be JPEG only with a maximum size of 5x7, and must be PC-compatible files only. If you are submitting a video file it should be no longer than 5 minutes and must accessible with one of the following plug-ins: Quicktime, RealPlayer, Shockwave, Windows Media Player or Flash. The deadline for submissions is January 21 at 4 PM unless otherwise stated. Please ensure that you have submitted all requirements for consideration to the ACAD Awards Office (Student Resource Centre, located in Annex A) by that date. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Note: The prize is open to graduating ACAD students in all faculties; however, the use of the space should be considered "fine art" as opposed to "commercial design."
The studio space provided by Art Central includes ventilation, a track of lighting and a common area sink. Replacement of light bulbs is the sole reponsibility of the studio prize recipient. If there are any special requirements for studio space use i.e.) ventilation, chemicals, equipment etc. the student application must clearly articulate these needs and will require written approval from Art Central.

TEATRO NEW YORK STUDIO PRIZE IN FINE ART

Eligibility: Open to all Fine Arts majors in their second semester of their 2nd year or second semester of their 3rd year. Students must complete their final semester at ACAD.
Criteria: Merit of work. An interview with finalists may also be requested as part of the selection process.

Selection: ACAD President, one ACAD faculty member and one external juror.
Conditions: An artwork by the prize recipient of the Teatro New York Studio Prize in Fine Art will be donated to ACAD, who will in turn donate it to Teatro Restaurant for display.

Fine Arts majors in 2nd semester 2 year may attend either Fall or Winter semester at The NewYork Studio Program.
Fine Art majors in 2nd semester 3rd year may attend only Fall semester at The New York Studio Program, in order to return to ACAD for final semester of studies.

Recipients must pay tuition and student fees to ACAD for the term of the NYSP. Tuition and fees are assessed for participating students as it would be for mobility students. Although students will participate in 15 credits of independent study while part of the NYSP, students will only be assessed and required to pay tuition to ACAD for the number of credits they require to satisfy program requirements. Upon successful completion of the New York Studio Program, those credits will be transferred back to ACAD to satisfy agreed upon requirements. Additional credits (to a max. of 15) may also be transferred back at a rate of $15.00 per 3 credits.

Recipients must complete supplementary AICAD NYSP application and required documentation, including medical exam, statement, faculty recommendations etc. to be able to meet May 15 post-marked deadline.

The Teatro New York Studio Prize in Fine Art cannot be deferred for use in a different semester.

Students are required to provide a presentation on their New York Studio Program experience to ACAD student/faculty upon their return.
Note: BFA applicants may apply to both this award and the President's New York Studio Prize. In the event that the award recipient is unable to take advantage of the New York Studio Program tuition credit, the jury may consider another applicant. The NYSP is designed for advanced students to have an opportunity to study in New York City for one semester. Please note access to some fine arts facilities in the New York Studio Program is limited. Students will be eligible to receive 15 credits for their semester of study. Note: One recipient will be selected and will work with the donor to provide photographic material based upon a theme and content specific criteria established by the donor. Additional applicants of this scholarship may (at the discretion of the donor) be invited to participate in the site specific photo shoot and may have their work purchased by Lafarge Canada Inc. The student award winner may be kept on a retainer for future work if agreed upon by both parties.

BMO Financial Group 1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition

Note: BMO Financial Group's 1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition celebrates the creativity of art students from post-secondary institutions across Canada. Deans and instructors of undergraduate certificate, diploma, and degree programs in visual art are invited to select from their graduating classes three students, whose ability and imagination place them 1st among their peers. A distinguished selection committee chooses a national winner and one winner from each eligible province and territory.

The national winner receives $5,000 and the regional winners each receive $2,500 for his or her artwork. The national winner’s work will become part of BMO’s corporate art collection, which includes historical and contemporary Canadian masters such as Kenojuak Ashevak, Emily Carr, Paterson Ewen, Tom Forestall, Marc-Aurèle Fortin, Lawren Harris, Thaddeus Holownia, David Milne, Margaret Priest, Denyse Thomasos, Ian Wallace and others. All winning entries will be on display at the 1st Art! 2009 exhibition, held at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in October.
