ACAD's Fibre major covers a broad range of processes that includes weaving, dyeing, tapestry, surface design, felting, papermaking, sculpture, mixed media, and installation. Traditional and experimental practices coexist to create a vital and dynamic program of study with an open and flexible attitude toward the development of the individual student's own artmaking potential.

At the introductory level, students select courses in weaving, dyeing, printing, papermaking, design or mixed media, applying these approaches to both two and three-dimensional form. Courses focus on skills, processes, materials, and ideas integral to contemporary Fibre practice. During the third year, students pursue in-depth study in the areas of surface design, mixed media or weaving in a self-directed approach to study that allows students the opportunity to pursue areas of personal interest. Fourth-year students develop work for exhibition and submit a major paper in support of their individual studio practice.
The faculty's extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary textiles, the diverse curriculum and the well-equipped, light, airy studio facilities make this one of the strongest Fibre programs on the continent. Fibre majors are encouraged to take studio courses in other studio areas and to apply Liberal Studies course material to studio work in order to develop a better ability to assess work critically.
