Organized from an exhibition curated by Joan Stebbins, outgoing curator at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge. Stebbins exhibition checklist featured large-scale mixed media drawings, objects and light projections in a ten-year survey of Boyles performative light projections. For the Sled Island Music Festival, two large-scale drawings with overhead projectors and drawings on acetate were chosen. Shary has also been invited back to present a special inter-media performance with Doug Paisley on Wednesday, September 24.
Toronto-based artist Shary Boyle formed Dark Hand and Lamplight when invited on a California tour with Will Oldham in October, 2006.
The September 24th performance features Boyle creating live drawings and animating pre-drawn images on an overhead projector while musician Doug Paisley sings and plays guitar. Choreographed to the lyrics and music, artworks are projected onto a screen, the wall, and other available surfaces in the IKG, crafting an explosive audio-visual experience of melancholic euphoria. The performance lasts approximately 45 minutes. Seating is limited, so come early.
