Heather Smith - Imaginary Friends
December 15, 2008 - February 7, 2009
Marion Nicoll Gallery | LRT Window Space
Reception | Thursday, January 29, 2009 | 5:00 - 6:00 PM
Heather Smiths current work focuses on ideas surrounding feminine identity, emphasizing the imaginary and the dreamlike. Cut out figures, appropriated from 1960s ephemera, evoke a specific set of cultural codes and determine a specific aesthetic. Dense collages of drawings in pale saccharine hues relate to ideas surrounding girl culture and a utopian desire to be initiated. The installed clusters of drawings examine desire in relation to belonging.
The LRT Window is located in the ACAD/Jubilee hallway.
