Winnipeg-based artist Sarah Anne Johnson’s photographic work has explored ideas behind realistic, workable utopias within tree planting communities in Northern Manitoba and among ecology minded volunteers in the Galapagos. Her new work has a more personal focus, investigating familial community and personal history. Her exhibition at IKG will feature new photographs, painting, sculpture and mixed media works.

Johnson graduated with an MFA graduate from Yale University and taught at Yale for two years following her graduation. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the recent Grange Award from the Art Gallery of Ontario and Air Canada Aeroplan. She has received positive critical reviews from Roberta Smith (The New York Times), Vince Aletti (Modern Painters) and Jerry Saltz (The Village Voice). Her shows have been critically reviewed in Artforum, Frieze, Border Crossings and Canadian Art, among others. Her work is in several distinguished public collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, as well as private collections. She is represented by Julie Saul Gallery, New York and Stephen Bulger Gallery, Toronto.
