Nate Mcleod - Sprawl

March 30 - May 23, 2009
Marion Nicoll Gallery | +15 Space
Reception | May 21, 2009 | 7:00 - 9:00 PM

Nate Mcleod’s recent work examines the inherent connections between urban expansion, suburbia, and waste. These connections are drawn by utilizing methods of display in which works hung in clusters sprawl across the wall, devouring the space – reminiscent of the massive expansion seen in urban areas following the Second World War, as well as the resultant increase in, and accumulation of, waste produced in these areas.

The + 15 Window is located in the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts. The space features three large windows sized for small-scale installations or a developing body of work. The location gives student artists access to a broader viewing public, and presents the opportunity to show alongside other Calgary Artist Run Centres: Truck, Stride, The New Gallery and the Untitled Art Society.
