Visiting Artist Talk | Erik Mattijssen

Erik Mattijssen just celebrated his 25th anniversary of being an artist. He studied in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and received his BFA in 1984. He has participated in numerous group and one-man shows. He is involved in the art education in the Netherlands and abroad for over twenty years. For 9 years Mattijssen has been Head of the Foundation Year of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and is appointed as a tutor and professor Drawing and Painting till the present day. He has been an invited lecturer at institutions in Ireland, Germany, Surinam, Japan, Estonia and the USA. In addition to teaching, lecturing, and a busy studio practice, Mattijssen organized and curated shows, is consultant for The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture, advises various public and private art-collections, is chairman of the Lost and Found Foundation and member of the jury of a few prestigious art prices in the Netherlands. He received a fellowship in the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland and awarded several stipends.
