March 3, 2010 | 8:00 PM
Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre | ACAD
Artist and writer Dick Averns was selected nationally as one of only five artists for the 2008-2009 Canadian Forces Artists Program; a federally supported initiative that enables artists to work alongside Canadian Forces personnel around the world.

This presentation will elaborate on the application and selection process for this unique initiative, culminating in his August 2009 deployment with peacekeeping troops in the Middle East. This illustrated talk will also explore Averns’ resultant work, War Art Now, comprising photo-based artworks and non-fiction writing that investigate the role of art and military cultures in the context of the War on Terror.
This presentation is organized and supported by ACAD Liberal Studies and Professional Practices for Artists. War Art Now has been funded by: the Canadian Forces Artists Program, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development Authority, Calgary Allied Arts Foundation, and the Marion Fund at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
