March 4, 2010 | 2:00 PM
Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre | ACAD

Matt Crookshank will give an artist talk this Thursday, March 4, at 2:00 PM in the Lecture Theatre. Matt Crookshank lives and maintains his studio practice in Toronto and is here for his third solo exhibition at Skew Gallery opening March 4th, 6 - 8 pm. The exhibition is comprised of oil paintings from two recent series: Perception and Endurance and Razor Beam. Crookshank received his BFA from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and pursued digital animation at Centennial College. In 2008 he was included in Carte Blanche Vol.2: Painting, published by the Magenta Foundation and attended the thematic residency Cosmic Ray Research at the Banff Centre. In 2009 Crookshank debuted the Razor Beam series at Museo de la Ciudad, Querétaro, México. "When painting, I try to spread myself open and to be two things at once; the infinitely condensed point and the infinite circumference. It’s a super-sensitization, a space of hyper-awareness. These works are a communication of something beyond my own mind. They are a crystallization of some divine ecstasy. They are perception and endurance."
