ACAD Fibre alumni wins Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Nienkamper Scholarship

Samantha Reed, a 2009 ACAD Fibre graduate, has just been awarded the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Nienkamper Scholarship, in recognition of artistic excellence during her undergraduate studies at ACAD and in support of advanced study. Ms. Reed has been accepted into the Master's of Design - Textiles as Fashion Program at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow Scotland. She will be beginning her studies in Sept. 2009.

This award, valued at $5000 is made possible by the generous financial support of furniture magnate Klaus Nienkamper to provide significant further educational opportunities or to give assistance towards their development as professional practitioners for students graduating from an undergraduate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts is one of Canada's most enduring cultural institutions. Honouring Canada's visual artists since 1880, today's Academy is composed of over 700 established professionals working across Canada in a diverse group of visual arts disciplines including, among others, painting, sculpture, architecture, design, fine craft, photography and filmmaking.

Samantha will be presented the award at the RCA President's Dinner June 26th during the RCA General Assembly in Calgary June 25 - 27.
