ACAD Welcomes New Chair to the Alberta College of Art + Design Board of Governors

April 27, 2009 (Calgary, Alberta) - The Alberta College of Art + Design is pleased to announce that the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology has appointed Mr. James Peacock as Chair of the ACAD Board of Governors.

Mr. Peacock has been a member of the ACAD Board of Governors since April of 2008, and has contributed to the board through the position of Acting Chair of the Governance Committee since December of 2008. He served as President of the Law Society of Alberta in 2007, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of Calgary Legal Guidance. He is also past president of the Board of Directors of Theatre Calgary, past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Calgary Learning Centre, and a past member of the Board of Directors for Calgary Habitat for Humanity.

Mr.Peacock holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Bachelor of Civil Laws (BCL) degree, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, all from McGill University. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1981, and became a partner at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (then Code Hunter LLP) in 1985. He currently maintains a civil litigation practice with an emphasis on medical malpractice, professional and product liability and corporate and commercial disputes. He is recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada as a leader in corporate and commercial litigation, personal injury litigation and product liability law.
